La Via Campesina Demands End to US Blockade Against Cuba
The movement denounces the blockade as economic warfare and a violation of international law. It also expressed alarm over the deployment of US war fleets in the Caribbean, viewing it as an imperialist threat to regional peace and security

From Via Campesina
La Via Campesina expresses its strongest and most fraternal solidarity with the heroic Cuban people – who for more than six decades have been resisting with dignity – the criminal and inhumane economic, commercial, financial, and media blockade imposed by the US government.
This act of economic warfare constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and a direct attack on the sovereignty, self-determination, and life of the Cuban people.
We denounce with deep concern the permanent military threat looming over the Caribbean, with the deployment of US war fleets seeking to intimidate and destabilize the region. Such imperialist actions represent a serious threat to the peace, security, and integrity of our peoples.
Cuba, an example of international solidarity, has shared its knowledge, science, medicine, and commitment to social justice with the world.
Today, as it faces new aggressions and a crisis aggravated by the blockade and sanctions, we reaffirm our recognition and admiration for its resistance, dignity, and ability to build hope in the midst of adversity.
An example of this is the recent enactment of the Law on the Promotion of Agroecology, which, together with the Law on Food Sovereignty (2022), constitutes an international benchmark in achieving healthy and sovereign food production systems in the hands of the peasantry themselves.
La Via Campesina demands the immediate and unconditional lifting of the US blockade and the cessation of all military threats in the Caribbean. We call on the international community to respect the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, which year after year condemns this inhumane and unilateral policy.
The 184 organizations of peasants, herders, fisherfolk, Indigenous Peoples, and rural workers in more than 80 countries say emphatically: Cuba is not alone! Its example inspires us in the struggle for food sovereignty, social justice, and peace among peoples. Long live free Cuba!
