The Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST) will hold its traditional National Struggle Action throughout April 2026. This year, the Action takes on historic significance as it marks the 30th anniversary of the Eldorado do Carajás Massacre and the 20th edition of the Oziel Alves Youth Pedagogical Encampment.

A central event of the program will be the march “The voice for life will silence greed: for Popular Agrarian Reform and in memory of the 30 years of the Eldorado do Carajás Massacre.” The march will depart from the municipality of Curionópolis to the “Curva do S” in Eldorado do Carajás and will be broadcast by Rádio Web Liberdade.

The Eldorado do Carajás Massacre, which took place on April 17, 1996, in the southeast of Pará state, resulted in the murder of 21 landless rural workers during a police operation. Three decades later, the episode remains a symbol of rural violence and the ongoing struggle for justice and agrarian reform in Brazil.

In this context, the National Struggle Action takes place across several Brazilian states, reaffirming the importance of memory as an instrument of resistance. Activities include marches, political acts, solidarity actions, occupations, and educational initiatives, which seek to engage society in dialogue about the urgency of a development model based on social justice, food sovereignty, and agroecology.

Another important milestone is the 20th Oziel Alves Pedagogical Encampment, which will bring together 500 young people from the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Roraima, and Pará. The Encampment aims to organize and educate MST Youth and will debate issues related to the MST’s Popular Agrarian Reform project, as well as offer workshops, music, arts, a photography exhibition, and a film screening.

For the MST, the 2026 National Struggle Action reinforces its commitment to the fight for rights, keeping alive the memory of those who fell and strengthening popular organizing.
