Mujica, Francia Márquez, and more: Peoples’ Integration Journey with an intense programming this Friday

An intense agenda of activities will mark this Friday (23), the last day of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples’ Integration Day in Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná state. Colombian vice-president, Francia Márquez, is taking part in one of the panel discussions, while other leaders, such as former Uruguayan president Pepe Mujica, are expected to take part in the political event that closes the Journey.

The activities will, once again, take place at the Foz do Iguaçu Convention Center (Ceconfi, in Portuguese). More than 4,000 people are expected throughout the day.

Francia Márquez will be one of the members of the panel “Challenges of Latin American and Caribbean Integration,” the first this Friday, at 9 am, right after the opening of the day’s activities. The purpose of the panel is to engage in dialog with political parties, parliaments, governments and people’s movements.

The programming will continue with discussions at four thematic working tables starting at 11 am: “Democracy, sovereignty and integration”; “Rights to unite our peoples: education, food sovereignty, health and energy for integration”; “Decent work as the focus of a new development model” and “The battle of ideas and the construction of a cultural hegemony”.

The last plenary session of the event is scheduled for 3 pm. The activity, which is scheduled to last until 6 pm, will also include the reading of the document drawn up by delegations.

The event’s closing activity will be a political act that will bring together authorities from various countries beginning at 7:30 pm. In addition to Francia Márquez and Pepe Mujica, the following authorities will attend the event: Brazil’s Minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of Brazil, Márcio Macedo will also attend the event; the Minister of the Secretariat of the Presidency of Bolivia, Marianela Prada; the Senator for the Guazú Front of Paraguay, Esperanza Martínez; and other representatives from the countries of the region. There will also be a cultural festival.

The Journey is organized by ALBA Movimientos, International Peoples’ Assembly, Confederation of Trade Unions of the Americas, Continental Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Students (Oclae), Continental Day for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism, as well as the universities Unioeste and UNILA.
